The Civil Wars program is based on a comparative and trans-regional approach to contemporary civil wars. This program aims to provide experts and policy-makers with in-depth analyses of the political, social and economic issues driving violent disruptions of the political orders.

This program is conducted in partnership with the European Research Council (ERC) program “Social Dynamics of Civil Wars”, directed by Gilles Dorronsoro. Its team of researchers has a unique access to people and places affected by civil wars, particularly in Central Asia, the Middle East and West Africa.

In order to inform policy debates related to the issues of social transformations, rebel governance and transnational dynamics in civil wars contexts, the Civil Wars Program both publicizes and enrich the research funded by this ERC program through the organization of public events and the publication of the Civil Wars Papers.
